10 Filipino Inventors and their work.

1. Rodolfo Aquino
- In 1966, Dr. Rodolfo Aquino isolated nine specific breeds of rice for the International Rice Research Institute. His discoveries helped prevent famine in much of Asia, and were nearly solely responsible for Thailand and Vietnam becoming the world's leading rice producers (A spot once solely occupied by the Philippines.)

2. Diosdado Banatao
- Many types were invented by Diosdado Banatao, beginning with the world’s first 16-bit chip in 1972, which he invented while working at Commodore. This led to the development of GUI, a form of user interface that allows users to interact with electronic devices through graphical icons and audio indicator such as primary notation, instead of text-based user interfaces, typed command labels or text navigation.

3. Dr. Enrique Ostrea Jr.
- Developed the Neonatal Drug Test, method for detecting drug use by pregnant females by detecting traces in the baby’s stools. His method is used by doctors worldwide in diagnosing drug dependency in infants.

4. Eduardo San Juan
- Mechanical engineer Eduardo San Juan (aka The Space Junkman) worked on the team that invented the Lunar Rover, or Moon Buggy. San Juan is considered the primary designer of the Lunar Rover. He was also the designer of the Articulated Wheel System. Prior to the Apollo program, San Juan worked on the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).

Eduardo San Juan graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology. He then studied nuclear engineering at the University of Washington. In 1978, San Juan received one of the Ten Outstanding Men (TOM) awards in science and technology.

5. Fe Del Mundo
- Del Mundo revolutionized Philippine medicine, making major breakthroughs in immunization and in the treatment of jaundice, and providing healthcare to thousands of poor families. She is credited with studies that led to the invention of the incubator and a jaundice relieving device.

6. Abelardo Aguilar
- In 1949, Filipino doctor Abelardo Aguilar was testing micro-organisms he had isolated from soil samples in his back garden when he chanced upon bacteria that would later lead to the development of the antibiotic erythromycin.

Aguilar was then working for the U.S. pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly Co., which has since earned billions of dollars by marketing the drug under its brand-name, Ilosone.

7. Roberto del Rosario
- A Filipino entrepreneur who established Trebel Music Corporation, a piano company in the Philippines. He was the patent holder of the Sing Along System, a type of karaoke system he developed in 1975.

8. Pedro Flores
- A Filipino businessman and yo-yo maker who has been credited with popularizing Yo-yos in the United States. He patented an innovation to yo-yos that used a loop instead of a knot around the axle, allowing for new tricks such as the ability to "sleep."

9. Gregorio Y. Zara
- A Filipino engineer and physicist. He was the inventor of the first two-way videophone.

A native of Lipa, Batangas, Zara finished primary schooling at Lipa Elementary School, where he graduated as valedictorian in 1918. In 1922, he again graduated valedictorian in Batangas High School, an accolade which warranted him a grant to study abroad.

10. Daniel Dingel
- A Filipino Engineer who claimed to have invented a "hydrogen-reactor" able to power a water-fuelled car.

Dingel said he began working on his hydrogen reactor in 1969, and claimed to have used the device to power his 1996 Toyota Corolla. Dingel explained that his invention splits producing hydrogen from water in an onboard water tank and does not produce any carbon emissions. However, he never revealed the secret to his invention. In an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Dingel said that he would willing to reveal the secret of his invention if the buyer would hire 200 Filipinos and their families.

Dingel was known as a vocal critic of Filipino government officials and scientists who refused to support his invention. The Philippines Department of Science and Technology, in turn, has declared his invention a hoax.
